Resist Who?

“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.” (1 Peter 5:8-9, NASB)

“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7, NLT)

“But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also.” (Matthew 5:39, NLT)

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12, NASB)

  1. Very interesting. Shows me a new perspective. Satan is the one we're told to resist, not evil people. We are to love all people, just as Christ loves us all.

  2. We are always battling and waging war against the enemy. Our battle is not physical but spiritual. So we must fight and take the Sword of the Spirit- the Word of God - from its sheath and stop just hiding with the shield. We should fight back. Jesus resisted and rebuke satan through the Word of God though the enemy thwarted the truth even using God's word against Jesus, to tempt Jesus. We must know the Truth.
